What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Swim Team Coach position at YMCA of Central Kentucky?
General Function: To assist the head coach in ensuring that all Swim Team programs are started and finished as scheduled. Performs program to best of ability to achieve obtainable goals set by YMCA of Central Kentucky. Provides a sense of control during scheduled Swim Team programs. This will increase the safety of the pool for all participants, members, and their guest. The Assistant Swim Team coach will assist during emergency care in the event of an accident. Time may be spent doing routine maintenance duties as assigned by the management.
Know How: Strongly preferred current and valid, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer and a YMCA Lifeguard Certification. American Red Cross Safety Training for swim coaches is also strongly recommended. These will be required to complete prior to 9/1/2025 if not already held. Position also requires previous competitive swimming experience, teaching swim lessons, preferably at a stroke mechanics level or higher and the ability to provide good public relations with children and adults.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the head coach to plan, organize and implement work practices.
- Enforce Swim Team rules and justly establish disciplinary actions.
- Keep the Assistant Aquatic Director informed at all times of any situations relating to swim team.
- Ensure that all practices are started and finished as scheduled.
- Coach Swim team program by the YMCA of the USA guidelines.
- Prevention of accidents both in the water and on the deck.
- Provide rescue and emergency assistance in the event of an accident.
- Maintain a sense of control and safety during scheduled programs.
- Help assistant coaches take care of all equipment plus getting it out and putting it away.
- Take daily attendance and provide feedback to all participants and parents..
- Attend all staff meetings and in-service training as set up by the Aquatic Director as assigned.
- Maintenance duties when needed. These duties include picking up litter on the deck and keeping the deck clear of all obstructions.
- Wear staff uniform and name tag when on duty and appropriate.
- Have a whistle with you at all times.
- Customer service. Be friendly and able to answer general YMCA questions.
- Work your scheduled times or find your own qualified substitute approved by supervisor.
- Fill out accident reports for any accident no matter how minor.
- Any thing that needs to be done related to the swim team as directed by the head coach.
