Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Camp Director is accountable for the successful management of Camp Blanchard in accordance with the mission, purpose, image, and core values of the YMCA of Central Massachusetts. Camp Blanchard has been home to countless friendships, life lessons and summertime memories for generations of campers.
The Camp Director will supervise assigned staff and volunteers, maintain a clean and safe environment for all participants, maintain proper records/logs, know and implement emergency procedures, rules and regulations and communicate with parents/guardians regularly.
The successful candidate must be qualified by training and experience to carry out the respective functions in the administration, operation, and maintenance of the program and makes relationship building the number one priority at all times.
The position is responsible for ensuring that the child care programs convey the mission, purpose, image, and core values of the YMCA of Central Massachusetts.
Job Duties:
Create and advocate objectives for Camp Blanchard that align and support the overall objectives of the YMCA of Central Massachusetts. Observes and ensures achievement of objectives.
Oversees camp administration to include registrations, billing and payments, mandated reporting.
Operates within the designated operating budget. Exercises necessary controls to assure revenue/expense goals are met or exceeded.
Recruits, hires, trains, and evaluates all Camp Blanchard staff.
Provides training necessary to ensure a quality program and broaden the base of knowledge from which the staff draws from.
Maintains effective working relationships with various groups and committees, including parents of campers.
Actively pursues collaborative relationships with agencies, municipalities, and school systems.
Ensures all program operations are consistent with Association procedures, including insurance, accidents, purchasing, and personnel and accounting systems.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 21 years of age
Bachelor’s degree required in a related field and from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of 2 years of camp management experience required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Effective human relations skills and proven ability to interact in the community and enhance and develop collaborations.
Experience managing large part time staff team including counselors, waterfront directors, lifeguards ect.
CPR, AED, and 1st Aid Certified
Sound knowledge of state licensing and local permit procedures.
Ability to de-escalate moderate to intense conflict situations.
Provide thorough communication with staff, Y leadership and camp parents/guardians.
Deliver a safe, and fun summer camp experience.
This is a Full-Time Summer Seasonal position from June 23rd, 2025 - August 22nd, 2025. Candidates for this positions will be expected to work part-time flexible hours in preparation for the camp and attend trainings prior to camp opening.
Candidates must be able to attend all staff training for Camp on Saturday, June 7th and other trainings to be determined.
Schedule: Monday - Friday between 6:00am-6:00pm; occasional evening (after 6pm) and weekends as necessary
