POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Association Head Swim Coach provides excellent customer service while managing all locations of the YMCA of Coastal Carolina swim team across the association and assisting with the production of a quality swim team program. The Association Head Swim Coach promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with the YMCA of Coastal Carolina policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Perform excellent service to all members, staff, volunteers, and guests by responding to all inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
2. Build relationships by using names and initiating conversations with all members, staff, volunteers, and guests.
3. Communicate with supervisor, staff, members, guests, and volunteers in a clear, concise, and positive manner while using Listen First skills.
4. Understands, supports, and is committed to the YMCA cause and our role in the community as a leader in Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.  
5. Directly coach (at least) one primary training group, while splitting time between all locations weekly.
6. Assist and oversee the YMCA of Coastal Carolina coaching team with managing the Swim Team program including preparation and implementation of progression curriculum, seasonal plans, and practice plans focused on development of competitive skills as well as teamwork, work ethic, goal orientation, positive attitude and core values.
7. Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, develop, schedule and direct coaching staff and volunteers for all site locations as needed.
8. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
9. Accurately seek out, summarize, communicate and enter all swim meet information for the entire YCC program, and communicate final details to parents in a timely, professional manner.
10. Assist in development of program budget and monitor it to fiscal objectives.
11. Perform team admin duties as assigned, including but not limited to, team registration, team communication, team store and website maintenance. Works with assistant coach with meet management.
12. Take lead event management roles in all hosted swim meets within the YMCA of Coastal Carolina, as well as additional duties assigned for other hosted events at the YMCA of Coastal Carolina as needed and attending 75% of all swim meets.
13. Assist in the retention of existing members and engagement of new members by informing them of all YMCA of Coastal Carolina programs.
14. Assist in creating, targeting and distributing program marketing information.
15. Maintains knowledge of industry trends.
16. Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
17. Know and review all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with the YMCA of Coastal Carolin policies and procedures
18. Attending all staff meetings and trainings as required.
19. Perform other related duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Previous 3 years swim coaching experience required in a head or leadership capacity.
• Previous customer service experience preferred
• Current YMCA Swim Coach or USA Swim Coach certification required.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches certification required.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with excellent follow through.
• Desire and ability to work with people of all ages.
• Must exhibit patience, sensitivity and understanding.

• Must be willing to regularly work flexible hours, nights and weekends.
• Must be able to pass a swimming skills test.
• May be required to sit, stan or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time including continuous physical endurance for thirty to sixty minutes of aerobic activity.
• May be require to work outdoors for extended periods of time. May be exposed to extreme outdoor weather conditions and temperatures and to wet and/or humid conditions in swimming pool areas.
• Must always be alert, keeping safety in mind. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities to monitor environment and members’ well-being.
• Must possess auditor, verbal and visual capabilities to adequately communicate via phone and in person.
