Job Title: Part-Time Youth Basketball Referee
Location: The Beaverton YMCA
Reports To: Youth Sports Coordinator
Employment Type: Part-time / Seasonal
Job Summary:
The Youth Basketball Referee is responsible for officiating youth basketball games in a fair, consistent, and positive manner. This role ensures that all participants—players, coaches, and spectators—experience a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment in alignment with the YMCA's mission and core values.\
Key Responsibilities:
- Officiate youth basketball games for ages typically ranging from 7 to 14 years old.
- Enforce rules and regulations of the game consistently and fairly.
- Promote good sportsmanship, safety, and fun.
- Communicate clearly and calmly with players, coaches, and spectators.
- Monitor equipment and the playing area to ensure a safe environment.
- Report any incidents, injuries, or rule infractions to the Sports Director.
- Arrive on time and be prepared for each game.
- Assist in setup and breakdown of gym/field when needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum age: 16 years old
- Basic knowledge of basketball rules and gameplay required.
- Previous playing, coaching, or refereeing experience preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick, fair decisions.
- CPR/First Aid certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain).
