POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary function of this position is to assume responsibility for safety and control of all patrons in and around the pool any time the pool is scheduled for use.
QUALIFICATIONS: (We will Certify you!)
- YMCA “On the Guard II” certification and/or American Red Cross Lifeguard training
- Basic First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
- Must be at least 16 or older

RESPONSIBILITIES
The YMCA of DeKalb County is looking for attentive and responsible team players to fill the position of lifeguard to help create a safe and positive atmosphere in and around the pool in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
- Maintain constant and diligent surveillance of the pool and respond to emergencies.
- Ensure safe, clean, and secure conditions for the indoor pool and surrounding areas.
- Enforce all aquatics rules and policies on a fair and consistent basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrates competency in prevention of aquatic-related injuries through proper pool supervision
- Contributes to the overall cleanliness and organizational aspects of the aquatics area
- Assumes responsibility as a professional lifeguard
- Takes initiative in situations where problem solving is necessary
- Demonstrates competent physical strength, stroke efficiency, and swimming endurance as necessary to perform proper life guarding rescue skills
- Follows policies and procedures and demonstrates knowledge as stated in the YMCA of DeKalb County Employee Manual
- Demonstrates knowledge in performing rescues, caring for neck and spine injuries, sudden illness, heart attack, etc.
- Recognize and respond to all emergency situations with proper rescue technique needed for situation, including activating emergency action plan
- Provide necessary First Aid/CPR for victims in an emergency according to training provided
- Communicate with Aquatic Staff team to ensure operations are managed daily

- Physical ability to stand and walk for extensive periods of time, as well as the ability to lift weights up to 45 pounds
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency

Salary: Part-time $12.00-$12.50 hourly

Evenings: 5:00 pm-8:30 pm
Saturdays: 7:30 am - 12:00pm// 1:00pm - 7:00 pm
Sundays: 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm
