What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coordinator - Group Exercise - Flager Health Village YMCA position at YMCA OF FLORIDA'S FIRST COAST?
Position Summary:
Provides leadership to the Group Exercise Program including enhancing the quality and growth of the program and retention of the participants.
Essential Functions:
Builds effective relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
- Improves the health and well-being of the community the YMCA serves.
- Leads and coordinates Group Exercise instructor meetings and trainings.1.Responsible for finding substitute teacher(s) or substituting when needed and reporting substitution(s).
- Responsible for the administration of the Group Exercise Budget.
- Communicates all branch-wide events to instructors.
- Maintains class participation numbers.
- Maintains instructor files to keep all certifications current.
- Ensures group exercise class offerings are meeting the needs of the YMCA member population.
- Attends branch staff meetings, trainings and functions.
- Maintains Audio Equipment, exercise equipment inventory and exercise equipment

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent preferred.
- 1-4 years of teaching experience in related field.
- Ability to to teach classes that could include, but not limited to: step, toning, sculpting, hi/lo impact, Pilates, yoga and cycling.
- Strong interpersonal skills, and customer service-oriented.
- Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED, national certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification.
- Certification in areas of expertise.
- YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire (available through Leadership University).
- At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to conduct classes and activities relating to fitness.
- Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
- Acceptable hearing (with or without correction).
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to audition and perform skills necessary to lead others in a group fitness environment.
