POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
The Fun Zone Lead provides direct supervision and mentorship of youth aged 3 months -10 years in the Fun Zone as well as assisting the Coordinator in overseeing the staff who work in the Fun Zone. The position is responsible for planning and implementing activities for the staff to carry out with the children during drop in care as well as assist the Youth and Family Engagement Coordinator with additional programs the department may run.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Trains new staff in the Fun Zone.
- Maintains proper personal boundaries with youth.
- Supervises groups of children during program and event hours.
- Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
- Sets an exemplary example for youth in leadership, moral judgments, and respect for personal property, equipment, and facilities.
- Is available for Fun Zone events as scheduled, including nights and weekends.
- Sets-up and tears down equipment for games, crafts, meals, or anything else assigned.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
- Maintains knowledge and location of first aid and biohazard kits.
- Informs supervisor of any problems or major issues.
- When working with Fun Zone Staff, provides the leadership and direction for the staff member to follow.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- The Fun Zone Lead must be at least 21 years of age.
- Experience with and enjoyment of interacting with youth.
- Experience supervising staff (6 months or greater).
- Must possess and exhibit skills and experience in a wide range of program and camp activities.
- Must have access to reliable transportation.
- Must have scheduling flexibility in afternoon and evening hours, to include weekends
- Attend staff meetings and trainings, including but not limited to: First Aid training, Code Of Conduct and department meetings
- Must have the ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to address issues in a verbal and/or written format.
- Exceptional skills in comprehending oral and written communications to complete assigned tasks.
