What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Bishop Summer Camp Nurse/Medic position at YMCA of Grays Harbor?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Serves as the primary health officer during overnight camp. Establishes health needs, medication administration, health care documentation, and illness and injury management. Lives and works at Camp Bishop during the summer camp season.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend to illnesses or injuries of both campers and staff per written protocols.
- Administer both over-the-counter and prescribed medications to campers and staff per written protocol at designated times.
- Maintain accurate and up to date records of medication administration as well as illness and injury care delivered to campers and staff per written protocols.
- Communicate with parents before, during, and after camp in regards to health needs or incidents during camp session.
- Report illness, injury or abuse to proper authorities, when necessary, per written protocol
- Maintain a watchful presence to the overall wellness of campers and staff.
- Work directly with the EMS, fire department and hospital either by phone or in person when such a need may arise to attend to the illness or injury of a camper or staff.
- Live onsite and attend to camper illness and injury as the on-duty nurse. May need to provide overnight camper supervision, as deemed medically necessary.
- Attend supervisory staff meetings and other camp meetings and functions when assigned to do so by the Camp Director.
- Review camp health procedures as they relate to first-aid, medication distribution, and medical emergency management
- Complete all required online and in-person training.
- Follow all YMCA of Grays Harbor staff policies and guidelines.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the infirmary.

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus, with or without accommodation.
- Must participate in programming outdoors, regardless of weather.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- Preferred-Current Registered Nurse or LPN licensed by the State of Washington from the first to last day of employment.
- Required-Higher level medical training such as advanced CPR, EMT, or Paramedic training.
- Experience in pediatrics, emergency room, pre-hospital environment or as a school nurse preferred.
- The ability to relate effectively to children, parents and college-age staff is essential.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, online trainings and Child Abuse prevention training prior to start of camp season.
- Experience managing medication for a large group of youth.
Pay Structure: As a seasonal recreation facility, Camp Bishop is exempt from minimum wage requirements. Staff are paid a daily stipend, rounded to the half day. In accordance with state and federal law for seasonal recreation employment, staff are given 24 hours of rest time for every 7 days worked, as well as room and board while camp is in session. Additionally, staff are given daily breaks as required
