What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatics Coordinator: Morrison and Steele Creek YMCA position at YMCA of Greater Charlotte?
Under the supervision of the Association Director of Aquatics and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for the leadership of all areas of Aquatics, including aquatics safety programs and member experience. The Coordinator will manage the supervision, scheduling and training of lifeguards and carry out additional duties as assigned.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate staff safety trainings for the center. Assist with creating and implementing the in-service training schedule including Basic Safety Series, Child Abuse Prevention Training, and Code of Conduct training.
- Work closely with center leadership team to maintain active rosters and track employee certifications.
- Manage American Safety and Health Institute administration for the center, including all class scheduling and administration, student certification processing, and instructor coordination in collaboration with the Aquatics Director and Associate Executive Director.
- Attend association Safety Training Coordinator and Aquatic center representative meetings.
- Assist center staff with inventory and cleaning of training materials.
- Work closely with the Directors to maintain active rosters and track certifications for employees.
- Work with the Risk Management Team to schedule certified trainers for safety classes at the center.
- Grow swim programs and identify best practices.
- Lead swim-related safety strategies and audits, emergency procedures, readiness audits and staff orientation/onboarding.
- Maintain lifeguard shift schedules to ensure appropriate pool supervision and coverage for all pools throughout the year, including special events.
- Ensure safety checks, proper guarding techniques and emergency response, including water rescue, CPR/AED and first aid for all lifeguards.
- Assist with the tracking and monitoring of YMCA of Greater Charlotte Quality Standards that relate to Aquatics Safety and Risk.
- Monitor pool deck for maintenance or equipment concerns, taking appropriate action if necessary.
- Serve as part of the center leadership team, and fulfill Manager on Duty shifts as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires an individual with an enthusiastic personality who can develop harmonious relationships with staff, members, and volunteers. He/she must present a professional image including:
- Four year college degree in Physical Education, Recreation or related field.
- Minimum of two years of successful experience in aquatic instruction, management and possess minimum certifications in CPR/AED, First Aid, YMCA Lifeguarding, or Red Cross equivalents.
- Computer Skills in MS Office and database management systems.
- Current YMCA Lifeguard Instructor Certification or obtain within 60 days of employment.
- BSS instructor certification within the first 30 days of hire.
- CPO ceritifcation within the first 6 months of hire.
- YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification within the first 90 days of hire.
- Present a professional image and have excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and complete assignments in a timely manner while ensuring a high level of accuracy.

- Must be able to work with diverse situations, prioritize work requests and work independently
- Proven ability in the recruiting of staff and volunteers

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to work a 40-hour week with irregular work hours.
- Ability to work irregular work hours, including evenings and weekends on occasion.

- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Must be able to push, pull, lift and carry supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
