Under the direction of the SVP, Talent & Volunteers and in accordance with the core values and behaviors of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, the Association Director of Talent Development and Training is responsible for directing the design, implementation and execution of team member training and development programs, practices and systems to support and achieve organizational goals. The Director collaborates with senior leadership and key stakeholders to assess and prioritize talent, learning and development needs for all leader levels.

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, energetic, organized, has extreme attention to detail and planning, and can adapt quickly and lead through change. This person will provide a high level of service to the organization and its people and will ensure that all initiatives are based on the connection and premise of investing in our team.

Essential Functions

  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive talent development and training strategy aligned with the YMCA’s mission and goals.
  2. Conduct regular assessments to identify training needs and collaborate with senior leadership and key stakeholders to align initiatives.
  3. Design, deliver, and evaluate training programs, including leadership development, skills training, and compliance training.
  4. Oversee the creation and maintenance of training materials, e-learning modules, and other educational resources.
  5. Manage career development programs, including mentorship, coaching, performance management, onboarding programs, and internship programs.
  6. Work closely with department heads and key stakeholders to understand their training needs and develop appropriate solutions.
  7. Oversee the administration and maintenance of the Learning Management System (LMS) and lead the implementation of future modules and functionalities.
  8. Develop and implement performance management systems to include goal setting, IDPs and succession planning, utilizing data and analytics to measure effectiveness and make data-driven decisions. 
  9. Partner with YMCA of the USA to include national training & development initiatives and programs in our association training plan.
  10. Develop and manage the talent development and training budget, ensuring cost-effective use of funds.
  11. Ensure all training programs comply with relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies, and stay current with industry trends and best practices.
  12. Supervise a Talent Development & Training Coordinator and lead trainers within the association through influence.
  13. Communicate training initiatives, goals, and outcomes to the organization and present reports on training activities and effectiveness.
  14. Evaluate and continuously improve the effectiveness of talent development and training programs, promoting a culture of learning and continuous improvement
  15. Facilitate key training sessions, ensuring an engaging and informative experience for all participants.
  16. Responsible for the evaluation of instructor performance and effectiveness of learning programs including YUSA programs and internal trainings where there is an instructor—internal or external.
  17. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by leadership.

 

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  2. Minimum of 6 years of progressive leadership experience in talent development, training, or organizational development.
  3. Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing organizational-level training programs, managing learning and development initiatives, and leading talent development projects.
  4. Strong understanding of adult learning principles, training methodologies, and instructional design.
  5. Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and experience in implementing and expanding LMS functionality, experience with Schoox a plus.
  6. Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  7. Familiarity with e-learning authoring tools and multimedia development software, experience with Articulate 360 a plus.
  8. Strong skills managing significant change management to support culture and organizational change.
  9. Experience with multi-location entities.
  10. Demonstrated skill set to manage own time and workload and juggle conflicting priorities
  11. Demonstrated skill set to influence and direct all levels of team members and volunteers.
  12. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  13. Excellent listening, speaking and presentation skills.
  14. High degree of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  15. Innovative and creative mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  16. Strong commitment to the mission and values of the YMCA.
  17. All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Relevant certifications in training and development (e.g., Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP), coaching certification (ICF), SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), or similar) preferred.
  2. Bachelor’s or Master’s in Organizational Development, Training & Development, Adult and Continuing Education or Instructional Design preferred.
