What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Health Instructor: Metro YMCA position at YMCA of Greater Charlotte?
Under the direction of the Healthy Living Director and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Community Health Facilitator is responsible for instructing safe, effective and fun Community Health programming, as well as, enhancing the quality and growth of the programs and retention of the participants of the Community Health programs including Diabetes Prevention Program, LIVEStrong at the YMCA, Weight Loss Program, Parkinson’s at the Y, Enhance Fitness, Check, Change, Control, and beyond.
Essential Functions
1. Lead a group of participants through chronic disease evidence based curriculum
2. Conduct recruitment activites including Grab and Gos, information sessions, etc.
3. Maintain participant confidentiality by managing program records appropriately
4. Prepare class outline from the curriculum provided that meet all the necessary components and safe guidelines in accordance with current accepted practices of the curriculum
5. Foster an environment where members and program participants connect with one another to form positive relationships
6. Monitor member’s progress in meeting personal and program goals (both formally and informally)
7. Allow for pre/post class member engagement to build member relations.
8. Record class attendance and maintain a target attendance with continual growth.
9. Responsible to start and end class on time.
10. Maintain equipment and keep meeting area clean.
11. Introduce members to other aspects of the YMCA related to their goals
12. Must attend staff meetings and participate in facilitator dialogue (emails, conference calls, etc.) and professional development opportunities offering ideas and tools for facilitation to other team members
13. Participation in continuing education training specific to individual goals and branch objectives.
14. Supports the mission, vision and direction of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.

Education and Skill Requirements
1. All mandatory YMCA of Greater Charlotte trainings must be completed by the required date
2. Required to facilitate 2 classes per year
3. For LIVEStrong Facilitators- must be a certified personal trainer
4. For Parkinson’s Facilitators- must be a certified personal trainer or group exercise instructor
5. For Enhance Fitness Facilitators- must be a certified group exercise instructor
6. 2 or 4 year degree in health or a related field or the equivalent education/experience, OR an advanced level certification
7. Passion for helping people achieve their fitness goals
8. Excellent oral and written communication skills
9. Reliable, self-motivated and self-starter
10. Outgoing personality with a natural ability to build positive and trusting relationships
11. Strong customer service skills and the ability to promote programs and services

Physical Requirements
1. Ability to teach classes at a variety of days/times.
2. Ability to work irregular work hours, including nights and weekends on occasion.
3. Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds in weight.
4. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
5. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
6. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
7. Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.
