What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fitness Lead: Brace YMCA position at YMCA of Greater Charlotte?
Consistent with the mission of the YMCA, the Lead Fitness Instructor interacts with new and existing members to help them in achieving their health and wellness goals. Creates a welcoming environment for all members of all backgrounds and abilities.
PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:
- Serve as a department leader or “go to” person to other fitness instructors and other departments
- Assist the fitness coordinator or director with staff scheduling, and offer input when it comes to hiring, training and additional operational and program development responsibilities
- Responsible for working the fitness floor 4 shifts per week plus 1 weekend day per month
- Schedule fitness appointments and perform fitness consultations
- Provide basic instructions to members on proper exercise techniques and fitness equipment usage in a safe and effective manner
- Foster an environment where members and program participants connect with one another to form positive relationships
- Ensure fitness equipment and facility is clean and safe (strength and cardiovascular areas) at all times
- Make courtesy calls to remind members of upcoming appointments
- Introduce members to group exercise and fitness program communities based on their health and wellness goals
- Comply with all departmental safety guidelines to ensure standards are met; perform daily checks on assigned areas to ensure that standards are met
- Monitor member’s progress in meeting personal and program goals (both formally and informally).
- Serve as a key project team member i.e. equipment maintenance and equipment installation projects/initiatives
- Increase member engagement through the promotion of programs and/or volunteer opportunities
- Attend meetings/trainings and assigned events
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance according to departmental uniform guidelines
- Actively participate in community fundraising campaigns i.e. Annual Giving, etc.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelors Degree in health/fitness related field or 3-5 years continuous work experience in fitness related field
• Nationally accepted fitness certification
• Infant/Child and Adult CPR/AED trained, First Aid certification and Blood Borne Pathogen trained upon hire
• Prior supervisory or team leadership experience is desired
• Advanced knowledge of fitness equipment and its uses
• Experience conducting fitness appointments and assessments
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
• Ability to demonstrate effective and independent problem solving/conflict competencies
• Must be able to build positive relationships, accountability, and foster a positive learning environment
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Enthusiastic, friendly ,and positive demeanor
• Ability to multi-task, while remaining flexible to the needs of the fitness floor
• Basic computer skills i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel
