What are the responsibilities and job description for the Martial Arts Instructor: Stratford Richardson YMCA position at YMCA of Greater Charlotte?
Under the direction of the Program Coordinator & Branch Director, and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Martial Arts Instructor will be responsible for development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of the Martial Arts program as assigned.
- Provide leadership and guidance for children & adults in the program.
- Provide growth and development opportunities for participants
- Educate program participants about the history of Martial Arts/ SHO TO KAN.
- Teach program participants specific defensive SHO TO KAN skills based on their personal skill level.
- Develop and implement a reward system for participants based on their personal and skill growth.
- Set a good example in promptness, manners, language, appearance and health.
- Set a good example in respect and care for facilities used by the program(s).
- Build and maintain an enthusiasm in all participants and classes.
- Execute activities that are fun, challenging, safe, and age appropriate.
- Implement activities, making changes as they become necessary.
- Maintain all equipment used in one's program segment in good order.
- Report all program changes, equipment needs, problems, or unusual situations to Program Coordinator.
- Personally recruit new participants and get the community excited about this program.
- Attend all staff meetings and training's as required by the program staff.
- Assist in the daily cleaning and maintenance of the space and/or facility, to help create a clean environment.
- Know and understand the YMCA and branch policies and procedures.
- Manage appropriate behavior with all children and implement the programs discipline policy when necessary.
Requirements:
- At least 16 years of age.
- Previous experience teaching Martial Arts/ SHO TO KAN.
- Ability to work well with children and adults alike providing open communication with all participants and families.
- Ability to create and work within a Christian environment so that each participant has the opportunity for spiritual growth.
- Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances.
- Current certifications in CPR.
- One year college education preferred.
