What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swim Lesson Instructor 3: Keith YMCA position at YMCA of Greater Charlotte?
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director/Coordinator and in alignment with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Swim Instructor 3 is responsible for teaching swim lessons according to YMCA of the USA program standards and swim lesson curriculum. This position ensures a positive, safe, and effective learning environment for all participants while upholding YMCA core values and program excellence.

Essential Functions
• Teach swim lessons in accordance with YMCA of the USA standards and curriculum.
• Create a positive and engaging learning environment through enthusiasm and encouragement.
• Maintain a focus on swimmer safety, enforce/educate pool rules and maintain order during
lessons.
• Record attendance and document skill achievements for each student.
• Provide written progress reports/certificates to participants and/or parents.
• Effectively use swim aids and teaching tools to enhance individual skill development.
• Prepare and utilize written lesson plans to maximize class efficiency and effectiveness.
• Participate in all staff meetings, in-service training sessions, and program evaluations.
• Uphold YMCA values in interactions with participants, parents, and colleagues.
Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by leadership
Required Qualifications
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Minimum of 3 years experience teaching swim lessons.
• Prior knowledge, experience, and current certification to teach advanced swimming techniques
and skills.
• Successfully complete and maintain current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification (within 90
days).
• Present a professional, mature image with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
Working Conditions
• Work in indoor or outdoor pool facilities, exposed to sun, heat, and varying weather conditions.
• Maintain clear vision to observe all areas of the pool and remain alert at all times without lapses of
consciousness.
• Possess audible and visual awareness to detect noises and distress signals.
• Communicate effectively, including projecting voice across dynamic or noisy environments.
• Think critically, solve problems, and act swiftly in emergencies.
• Pass a swim instructor water skills test.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to
adjust.

products.
