Yoga Instructor Tier 4: Camp Thunderbird

Under the direction of the Group Fitness Director/Coordinator/Administrator and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Tier 4 Yoga Instructor is responsible for instructing safe, effective and fun group exercise (land or water), as well as, enhancing the quality and growth of the program and retention of the participants of the Group Fitness programs.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and prepare class routines that meet all the necessary components and safe guidelines in accordance with current accepted practices of exercise physiology.
• Allow for pre/post class member engagement to build member relations.
• Record class attendance and maintain a minimum of 80% target attendance with continual growth.
• Teach a minimum of 2 classes per week (8/month) including but not limited to at least one sub per month, and appropriately securing a substitute instructor when needed.
• Start and end class on time.
• Maintain equipment and keep group exercise area clean.
• Participate in Community Outreach campaign.
• Awareness of all branch emergency procedures.
• Attend staff meetings as required.
• Participate in continuing education training specific to individual goals and branch objectives.
• Support the mission, vision and direction of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.

REQUIREMENTS:

• All mandatory YMCA of Greater Charlotte trainings must be completed by the required date
• 10 years (1,000 hours) or more of teaching experience
• Proof of current Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) certification – minimum 800 hour level.
• Ability to teach 2 or more class formats, including one specialty population.
• Qualifications of a content expert with a willingness to perform as a mentor to lower tier instructors and educator in the YMCA continuing education platform.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to teach classes at a variety of days/times.
• Ability to work irregular work hours, including nights and weekends on occasion.
• Ability to walk, stand, and sit while maintaining alertness for extended periods of time.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
• Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds in weight.
• Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
• Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
• Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.
• Ability to “spot” participants.
