POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Lifeguard, you will have the opportunity to provide everyone with a safe place to swim, learn, grow and play. You will maintain a safe swimming environment in the pool, on the pool deck and the surrounding areas. You will be able to relate to people in a positive manner to build relationships with all who enter the pool.
LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION: If NOT certified, will be required to take the certification course held on February 8th, 9th, 15th, and 16th.
JOB LOCATION: Walnut Creek Family YMCA
SHIFT AVAILABLE: Monday - Friday, variety of shifts from 4:45am - 1:00pm, weekends also available
PAY RATE: $11.00-$13.00/hour
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: February 6, 2025 - Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Enforce rules and procedures
-
Keep pool and pool deck free of obstructions and safety hazards
-
Maintain constant surveillance of the water and pool deck areas
-
Handle equipment as assigned to ensure safety
-
Record chemical readings
-
Know emergency procedures and is able to demonstrate them
-
Maintain emergency equipment
-
Respond to all emergencies
-
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person
- Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
-
Must be at least 16 years of age
-
Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certifications or equivalent - prior to starting if hired

Intro to Y’s Cause & Culture Online Course - prior to starting if hired
- Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate with people and monitor property and activity

Ability to remain alert at all time

Ability to perform strenuous physical activity
- Ability to adapt to changing working conditions
