JOB LOCATION: Waukee Family YMCA
HOURS/DAY SCHEDULE: 8:00 am - 1:00 pm, Monday - Friday
PAY RATE: $10.25 - $11.88 per hour, depending upon experience.
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: May 7, 2025. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Youth Program Instructor, you will guide children through themed Enrichment activities such as art, science, cooking, health & well-being, and more. You will have an opportunity to lead kids in a way that fosters a sense of belonging, helps them gain confidence through achievement, and build relationships with and among children in the program. As a Youth Program Instructor, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining a safe environment both physically and emotionally for the group, and of course HAVE FUN!!!
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrate and teach activities.
- Conduct program in a fun, positive atmosphere.
- Know emergency procedures and be able to demonstrate them.
- Report specific problems or needs to supervisor or designated staff person.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
- Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
- Must be at least 16 years of age (If under age 18, must be working with an adult age 18 )
- Current Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certifications or equivalent - prior to starting
- Intro to Y’s Cause & Culture Online Course - prior to starting
- Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively with people and monitor property and activity
- Ability to remain alert at all times and ability to adapt to changing working conditions
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activity
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work with diverse group of people (mostly children between 3-12 years old)
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Good communication skills and good organizational skills
- Ability to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously
- Ability to teach/train program activities
- Attend trainings and/or courses as required by the YMCA
