What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatics Director position at YMCA of Greater Flint?
General Function: Responsible for the direct supervision, control, and safety of members and participants during swimming lessons, recreational, and lap swimming. The Aquatics Director will also monitor aquatic facility staff, equipment, and pool chemistry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the Mission, Vision, and Direction of the YMCA
- Organization, administration, and program development and daily operation of aquatics programs. Ensures compliance with state regulations and Y-USA standards for aquatics.
- Establishes new activities and expands current aquatics programs within the community in accordance with YMCA standards.
- Ensures a culture of safety. Leads practices and procedures in accordance with regulations, national safety and training standards, insurance, and Y-USA guidelines.
- Trains, directs and schedules lifeguard and swim instructors. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Schedule and organize in-service trainings to ensure staff are certified in required areas.
- Assist with hiring and performance management of lifeguards and swim instructors.
- Assist as needed with YMCA operations, building coverage, meetings, and special events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Risk Management responsibilities:
- Follow employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
- Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.
- Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with children.
- Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
- Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.
- Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
- Follow mandated reporting requirements.
- Communicate to all employees and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect their children from abuse.
- Report essential abuse risk management information to the appropriate staff.
- Utilize various sources of information to ensure compliance with abuse prevention standards
Entry Requirements: 2 years' experience in aquatics, youth, and fitness programming or equivalent. Must possess or be willing to obtain the following certifications: American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard, ARC Lifeguard Instructor, and Certified Pool Operator.

Meet the physical requirements of American Red Cross Lifeguarding including:
- Swim continuously 300 yards using breast or front crawl
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs
- Surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet and retrieve a 10 lb object.
Working Conditions:
- Work with a computer monitor over 6 hours/day
- Work in Hot and High Humidity Areas
- Work with Pool Chemicals
