This position is for our Litehouse Family YMCA location and offers 10-20 hours per week.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Sports Specialist assists with the year round and day-to-day operations of pre-school, youth, and adult sports programs. This position requires on site face-to-face leadership in these programs and involves early morning, evening, and weekend responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist with the day to day operations of the sports department
- Implements sports programs, activities, and clubs
- Schedules the off-sites facilities for programs
- Maintains adequate rosters for each program and makes periodic reports
- Administers all preschool and youth sports onsite and offsite programs
- Prepares informational packets for participants, volunteers, team captains, and coaches
- Develops school break activities for area youth
- Assists in collecting and depositing entry fees
- Manages 10-20 seasonal staff and up to 50 volunteers
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Association’s policies and applicable laws
- Supports the Association in recruitment of diverse staff and volunteers
- Assists in interviewing, hiring, and training staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems
Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids
COMPENSATION
$16.43 - $20.54 Part-time; Non-Exempt (up to 25 hours/week)

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred; six months to one year of related experience in sports management, coaching, or program management; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required. Knowledge of program elements (organization, promotion, establishing curriculum, and safety) and the ability to implement them. Past supervision experience preferred. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. Ability and desire to work one-on-one and in groups with youth.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION
- State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
- Blood Borne Pathogen training
- CPR Certification required within the first 60 days
- First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days
