Overview:
Responsible for daily operations and the supervision of associates at a preschool program within the Shawnee Mission School District. Ensures the program has a safe, supportive and fun environment. Creates and maintains positive relationships with families and school administration.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensures that the program is operated in a safe and purposeful manner, and that all licensing and YMCA guidelines are met or exceeded.
  • Develops relationships and work with prospects, families, associates, school staff, district representatives, and state licensing representatives.
  • Keep a consistent headcount on all children present at site; communicate changes with all other associates.
  • Implements a system for supervision for areas specific to site such as playground and bathrooms to insure children are never left unattended or placed at risk.
  • Consistently demonstrate positive interaction with all children; talk to them and treat them with dignity and respect.
  • Manages associate-to-child ratios within licensing standards and according to Y policies for site coverage.
  • Follows up and reports on absent children to ensure the child’s safety.
  • Maintains accurate attendance, and sign-in/sign-out records, including the daily required sign-in/out sheet with parent or guardian’s signature.
  • Positively ID individuals picking-up before releasing children (picture ID necessary until you can personally identify them).
  • Monitors equipment and facilities for safety and security purposes and addresses concerns promptly.
  • Manages and oversees observational tool through training and mentoring new leads on the use of the online tool, checking input weekly, and assuring portfolios for all children are maintained.
  • Communicates important program issues and information to supervisors.
  • Completes all state licensing, financial, and Y reports in an accurate and timely manner and critical incident reports within 24-hours.
  • Offers parent/teacher conferences each school year.
  • Attends all mandatory associate in-service and training events and maintains training requirements for licensing.
  • Maintains financial records and monitors bi-weekly fee payment process for site, including accounts receivables.
  • Organizes and meets fundraising site goal.
  • Educate staff in the appropriate developmental stages, and the proper classroom structure/ schedule based on these states. Provide guidance for staff with classroom situations.
  • Visit the classrooms on a regular basis, with interaction with both associates and children. Assist in classrooms to maintain proper ratio.
  • Provides tours to prospective families as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Qualifications to obtain a Program Director approval in the state of Kansas, holding a license for over 100 children (see below).
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working in a group setting.
  • Experience in understanding and applying the principles of development and programming for both school-age and early learning.
  • Demonstrated experience in relationship building and leadership skills, preferably in working with families, building administrators.
  • Knowledge of state licensing standards and commitment to adhere to said standards.
  • Sensitivity to clientele and associates representing a variety of family, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Commitment and desire to provide quality school age and early learning programming at all levels.
Qualifications for Program Director Approval
One of the below options must be met to qualify:
  • Option 1: Twelve credit hours in child development and early childhood education AND six months teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools.
  • Option 2: A child development associate credential and one year of teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools.
  • Option 3: An associate of arts degree or two-year certificate in child development AND one year of teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools
  • Option 4: An bachelor’s degree in child development or early childhood education, including a supervised practicum AND three month’s teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools
