Program Director (Summer & Weekend Retreats) - Camp Oakes

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the YMCA of Greater Long Beach, YMCA Camp Oakes is looking for their next Program Director to take its summer resident camp and weekend retreats to the next level. Position develops, organizes, and implements high quality YMCA summer resident camp and weekend retreat programming.

Essential Functions:

  1. Directs and supervises all summer and weekend program activities to meet YMCA objectives.
  2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed for summer and weekend programs. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  3. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  4. Leads the summer marketing and distribution efforts, organizes camper recruiting efforts.
  5. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations and partnering YMCA associations.
  6. Develops and monitors summer and weekend program budget to meet financial goals and objectives.
  7. Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
  8. Maintains, improves, and expands program facilities.
  9. Assists in YMCA Annual Campaign fund raising activities and special events.
  10. Responds to all camper and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  11. Assists with Board of Managers meetings and events.
  12. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of participation in program.
  13. Attend all staff meetings, trainings and other YMCA functions as required by Supervisor.
  14. Maintain open lines of communication with participant, staff and supervisor.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  1. Education & Certifications: Bachelor degree in related field strongly preferred.
  2. Additional Requirements: Criminal Clearance: Including Fingerprints and background clearance, TB Test. Must attend a new employee orientation within the first 90 days of employment.
  3. Experience & Background: Three plus years of related experience.   Ability to exercise effective, independent judgment, and to work independently, with limited supervision.  Computer literate with strong Microsoft Office products skills.  Ability to anticipate, initiate, and structure work to be performed.

Environmental Factors:  Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. childcare and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces.  Noise level is usually moderate.

Salary : $68,640 - $78,317
