Overview
As a key member of the School-Age Childcare Enrichment Program (CEP) team, the Group Leader is responsible for creating a safe, fun and positive atmosphere that promotes member engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Job Skills / Requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Passion for working with school-age children (K-8th grade).
- Minimum age – 17 years old.
- Hours: Monday – Friday (AM shift 7-9) (PM shift 2/3-6). Times are flexible based on site needs.
- Able to work/travel to CEP sites located at various Jefferson County Public Schools & Jefferson
County parochial school locations.
- Team player with personal commitment to YCMA Mission, Philosophy & Character Development Values.
- People centered, service oriented.
- Ability to demonstrate and implement the YMCA’s voice: determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful and welcoming.
- Ability to plan, implement and lead group activities for school age children Kindergarten through 8th
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Previous child care or group work experience preferred.
- Must be enrolled in High School or possess a High School Diploma or an equivalent.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
- Stands and greets parents and children by name.
- Leads group songs, games and crafts, and engages children in learning activities.
- Maintains positive relationships with the participants and other staff.
- Able to maintain group attendance/transition sheets and schedule for the day.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies all safety rules.
- Communicates with parents and caregivers about their child’s activities/day.
- Possess a willingness to work with youth and have FUN.
- Able to be a role model for children in our programs.
- A leader that has initiative, enthusiasm, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Attends all staff meetings and training as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Lifting up to 50lbs
- Climbing, sitting, standing, pushing, walking, kneeling, and stooping.
- Exposure to outdoor elements for certain portions of the day.
- Noise level- High
- Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting your voice across a distance in normal & loud situations.
CHILD SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
- Attend required abuse risk management trainings.
- Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
- Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
DRESS CODE:
- YMCA staff shirt or vest must be worn with name tag when on duty.
- Close toed shoes must be worn.
- Binder, first aid kit, lesson plans, etc. must be carried during the program and while on field trips.
- Hats must be Y branded if worn while on duty outdoors only.
STARTING SALARY: $18.00/hourly
STATUS: Part Time, Non-exempt
