Camp runs June 3 through August 8, 2025
Mandatory staff training will be held on June 2-3 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Reports To: Youth Development Director
Supervisory Responsibility: No
Position Summary:
To provide meaningful experiences to youth, by creating a safe and engaging program environment, and conducting activities to support curricular plans of learning and engaging youth. This role will work to build a partnership with the camp employees including site coordinators, counselors, volunteers, and youth campers.
Camp Goal: Our goal is to provide every child with fantastic camp experience and strive to create opportunities for personal growth and new friendships in a safe physical and emotional environment. In addition, helps campers achieve a sense of achievement, belonging, and build relationships.
Camp Description: YMCA Summer Day Camp serves several locations in our community. Each camp week is themed and ties into activities and events. It is the idea that all camps work together in staffing and sharing resources to best serve our campers. All camps run Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
Qualifications:
- Ability to demonstrate leadership skills as well as effective interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work with others to implement a program with intention.
- CPR/AED, First Aid & Blood Borne Pathogens certification (or complete required training available to staff).
- Ability to handle and resolve conflicts while being solution-driven.
- Dependable and punctual work ethics.
- Ability to be adaptable, organized, patient, and enthusiastic in a dynamic fast-paced setting.
- Alert at all times with attention to detail, take initiative and be proactive to prevent adverse situations.
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with leadership and program staff.
Experience
- Working with youth in a fun and structured environment.
- Working with diverse populations.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Supervise and teach camp participants directly through program engagement and curricular implementation.
- Lead and assist with activities that will build the participant's mind, body, and spirit.
- Relate and engage with participants to create a “fun” environment using activities that meet children’s abilities and interests.
- Provide youth information and guidance to make good decisions by incorporating character education in daily routines and activities.
- Identify and respond to behavior issues. Communicate concerns with Site Coordinators.
- Exercise positive judgment skills by listening, understanding, and thinking with patience.
- Manage maintenance of program supplies in accordance with safety standards and daily checks.
- Assume an equal share of regular housekeeping such as cleaning, preparing for daily activities and cleaning up after projects.
- Work alongside the team to create a positive and exciting environment for all.
- Be alert to camper's and staff needs.
- Effectively communicate with Site Coordinator for an effective and positive program environment.
- Understand your roles and responsibilities as a leader for the safety of all campers. Step in when deemed necessary and/or help with assignments as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality according to YMCA policy.
- Understand and practice all best practices and procedures.
