Overview
This position serves in a clinical capacity as a Primary Counselor in the outpatient mental health program for youth and adolescents up to age 21, who carries an assigned caseload consisting of children and adolescents with behavioral and/or mental health issues. Service provision includes evaluative services, clinical treatment, therapeutic interventions and discharge planning, as well as monitoring client progress related to psychotropic medication. Individual and family therapy are the core clinical offerings of and this position. Group counseling may also be required on an as-needed basis. All clinical services are offered in compliance with agency requirements for funding, licensure and accreditation. Consultation with referral sources is necessary, as indicated. This position includes providing services at multiple locations including the outpatient office, school-based counseling satellites which will require acting as the agency liaison as indicated.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a minimum caseload of 34 clients and provides a minimum of 28 face to face sessions weekly.
Provides evaluative services, treatment planning, clinical treatment consisting primarily of Play Therapy, as well as referral services, therapeutic interventions and discharge planning, also monitors client progress related to psychotropic medication.
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with referring Agency liaisons, personnel and community agencies involved in the treatment process for each family in order to ensure coordination of treatment and promote positive program functioning
Works one evening a week in an assigned outpatient location and at assigned school locations daily.
- Provides evaluative services, treatment planning, clinical treatment consisting primarily of Play Therapy, as well as referral services, therapeutic interventions and discharge planning, also monitors client progress related to psychotropic medication.
- Provides case management services and crisis intervention as necessary.
- Conferences shared clinical cases with supervisor and cooperating counselor(s).
- Handles crisis calls and makes appropriate referrals.
- Actively seeks supervision in response to client needs.
- Is responsive in supervisory sessions and receptive to identifying training needs.
Qualifications
- The clinician must possess a Master’s Degree in Social Work or Clinical Counseling accompanied by New Jersey licensure (LSW/LCSW, LAC/LPC).
- Must demonstrate competency with regard to treatment planning for varied problematic and complicated individual and family issues.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in individual, group and family therapy.
- Demonstrate a high level of cultural competence, sensitivity and responsiveness
- Must possess strong communication, writing and time management skills
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
