Overview
The Inclusion Specialist is responsible for working with individuals 1:1 or small groups 1:3 of youth with special needs to facilitate their inclusion into YMCA programs. This position is responsible for leading students participating in childcare programming to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, actively engage in planning and implementation of quality YMCA programs and objectives, and serve as a positive role model.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of program elements while facilitating a smooth transition and the inclusion of all participants.
- Create a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Work individually 1:1 or with a group 1:3 of participants with special needs in accordance with levels of supervision and school identified behavior plan.
- Ensure safety and well-being of all program participants.
- Provide continual supervision to program participants and serve as a leader and positive role
- Report any suspected child abuse to Site Supervisor/School Age Director. Document as necessary.
- Attend mandatory trainings.
- Maintain positive rapport with school personnel.
- Direct all parental questions/concerns to the Site Supervisor.
- Report any accidents or physical concerns to Site Supervisor.
- Assume and perform other duties deemed appropriate and necessary by the Site Supervisor/School Age Director.
- Follow and maintain YMCA standards, goals and objectives.
Qualifications
- Passionate, positive and inspired to work with youth that are autistic, intellectually and/or developmentally disabled.
- Minimum 21 years of age
- Minimum of 60 college credits or Associates Degree in related field
- Minimum of 6 months experience working with youth and/or experience in the special needs community, health field, or related field.
- Ability to work with a culturally diverse community.
- Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
- The physical ability to lead in group activities and to perform related physical skills.
