You'll support and coach our amazing cabin Leaders, plan epic weekly activities, and address camper behavior with patience and positivity. Our Summer Overnight Camp Age Group Explorer Steward (campers age 7 - 9) will be a part of our summer leadership support staff - STEWARDS, which stands for staff team ensuring we all receive direct support. As the Explorer Unit Lead Steward you will help support the work we do at the YMCA, by helping create a positive, nurturing environments for all; our staff who care for our campers ensuring they are supported and guided through the summer, our campers helping their reach their fullest potential deepening their connections as part of their overall camp experience and being a servant leader to help support the overall success of camp. We are looking for those with a desire to be a part of something bigger than themselves and wanting to work in the outdoors, passion for coaching youth to their fullest potential and being a servant leader to help support staff in their summer role. The job of Camp Unit Lead is both the hardest, and most rewarding job you will ever have. Essential Functions
- Plans, organizes, and executes age group activities
- Assists with camper check-in and check-out
- Assists in supervision of campers and oversees the success the program
- When required, stays in a cabin overnight with campers
- Ensures that campers are taught skills and, when required, teaches activities.
- Encourages growth in spirit, mind, and body and positive character development in all campers and staff
- Ensures the safety, health, and inclusion of all campers
- Oversees the maintenance and cleanliness of cabins for campers and staff
- Plans and implements program activities that is culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
- Dedication to job, camp participants and the YMCA cause.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Effectively communicates the camp rules, procedures, and schedule to campers, acting as a role model for campers and staff
- Effectively communicates with parents in a professional manner when needed
- Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Supervision during swim time; staff are required to supervise both in and out of the water.
- Maintain appearance of camp through cleanliness and set-up, with a "It's My Camp" attitude

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Two or more years of college/trade school or previous experience working with children, preferably in a overnight camp setting
- Experience working with youth and supervising staff
- Certifications: CPR, AED & First Aid.
- Must complete Online Training within prior to arrival at Camp.
- Strong desire to work with children in the outdoors
- Must be able to self-regulate your emotions in a fast-paced community environment
- A commitment to working with a diverse staff and camper population.
- Enthusiastic, engaged and professional personality.
- Flexible approach to working hours, and responsibilities.
- Ability to follow instructions and schedules.
- Experience preferred in at least two or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, canoeing, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
- Previous summer camp experience preferred.
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
- Starting Pay $400.00 per week.
- Additional compensation for specialized certifications (i.e. Lifeguards, Ropes, and more).
- Housing is provided for the summer.
- Camp Shirts are provided.
- Meals are provided.
- All training certification cost and time are paid for.
- Free laundry facilities.

- Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. Will require outdoor work during the summer months. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
