Description
The Fitness Service Technician, under the direction of the Executive Director of Facilities and with direction from the VP of Property and COO, will be responsible for servicing and repairing a variety of exercise equipment (treadmills, ellipticals, striders and recumbent bikes are most common). PMA’s and repairs within the fitness centers; preventative maintenance service, diagnostics on equipment and repair, utilize work order software to complete documentation of work, review equipment log to rotate equipment on the floor, repairs to equipment outside of manufacturer warranty work, and assist with installation as needed. Employees at this level are expected to be dependable and punctual with the ability to self-perform assigned activities without detailed instruction as to specific procedures to be followed and receive occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise. Employees are fully capable of attaining the skills and knowledge to perform the assigned duties through manufacturing handbooks, training videos, on the job training, and follow company policies related to fleet vehicle use.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must stay current in CPRPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually
- Able to operate hand tools and other equipment as necessary to perform maintenance on equipment
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance and inspections of equipment (tighten bolts/screws, lubricate parts, belt and cable maintenance, internal cleaning).
- Identify, diagnose and fix problems or issues with efficiency of equipment
- Upkeep finishes of equipment with attention to detail
- Order and install parts utilizing work software to minimize downtime
- Analyze and review equipment data to ensure even use of equipment as positioned on the fitness floor
- Maintain parts/tools/vehicle for a clean organized workspace
- Utilize company vehicle for travel to and from job (no personal use)
- Attend occasional manufacturer certifications that require out of state travel
- Promote and incorporate the YMCA core values and character development model within the facility
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Job Exposures:
- Some exposure to working outside in extreme weather (heat, cold, rain)
- Continual standing, stooping/kneeling and walking during shift
- Continual reaching with hands, fingers, arms during shift
- Occasional climbing and ladder use
- Exposure to fitness floor environment (people and noise) during shift
- Moving tools, ladder, dolly from vehicle to fitness floor multiple times during shift
- Lifting weight up to 60lb and shifting equipment to access and perform duties is routine

Members will be provided with a clean, safe, welcoming environment with functional equipment and the YMCA will project a positive image to its members, donors and the community.
Requirements
- Must be certified in PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid (Training provided by the Y, if needed)
- Mechanical/electrical aptitude and experience working with tools
- Technology related to phone/tablet for schedule, job reports and inventory management
- Must be a good communicator and relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
- Must have a current driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
