Do you love the camp life? Working at camp you will learn leadership, develop skills, teamwork and training like no other. No matter what your career goals may be, camp allows you hands on job experience and skills that can benefit you in any direction you career path takes you. Camp Program Staff will facilitate program areas and teach recreation and outdoor activities to adventure guides, scouts, church groups, and many other organizations. Training will include: how to teach recreation activities, team building, risk management, and customer service. Ideal candidates will be committed, energetic, and enthusiastic individuals that are looking for a positive and rewarding experience and be a member of the Camp Classen team. Our camp staff will help support the work we do at the YMCA, by helping create a positive, nurturing environment for all our participants and guests.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Learn to facilitate and lead camp activities (archery, kayaks, hikes, tomahawks, tye dye, arts & crafts and more)
• Grow your communication and leadership skills by working with all departments at camp, including kitchen, maintenance, and resident/day camp.
• Lead and participate in activities all throughout the day, including campfires, evening programs, and large group games.
• Be a professional liaison to assist in customer service at all times with any group at camp.
• Act as a positive role model for participants.
• Supports the commitment of the YMCA to child abuse prevention and safety by completing all child abuse prevention training as required.
• Complete training's and certifications in First Aid/CPR.
• optional: YMCA Lifeguard Certification (we can train and certify you)
• Maintain appearance of camp through cleanliness and set-up.
• Actively engage children and participants in activities.
• Report all injuries and incidences to the Camping Director
• Attend all Scheduled staff meetings and Trainings
• Display YMCA character values (Honesty, caring, respect, and responsibilities at all times.)
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be 17 years old or older (16 if you have completed YMCA Camp Classen CLP program or worked at summer 2023)
• Previous experience working with youth (within a camp setting is preferred).
• Exhibit strong leadership skills and a passion for providing excellent customer service.
• Ability to perform moderate physical activity and adapt to changing work conditions.
• Work with diverse groups of people.
• Strong ability to communicate effectively with others.
• Must be able and flexible to work various hours/shifts including nights and weekends.

• Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. Will require outdoor work during the summer months. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
