JOB TITLE: Youth Development/Child Care Internship
REPORTS TO: Program Director and/or Program Coordinator
FLSA TYPE: Non-Exempt
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
- The Intern will acquire knowledge of the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City and how its early childhood and youth development programs and operations create a developmentally rich environment that result in positive youth outcomes.
- The Intern will assist with supervising a safe and well-organized childcare program by planning and participating in group activities with early childhood up to school age children at a designated childcare site. Their duties include administering creative and educational activities, preparing, and serving snacks to children and maintaining a clean environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop positive, meaningful, and sustainable relationships with program participants, members, donors, and volunteers
- Develop positive relationships with school principal and staff
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children under program supervision
- Take daily attendance and see that each child is signed in and out by a responsible party each day
- Effectively plans and leads programs, services, and activities for program participants
- Prepare and distribute USDA and HEPA approved snacks and/or meals to participants
- Perform daily count of meals and snacks served
- Report all injuries and incidences to the site coordinator
- Display YMCA character values (Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility)
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must stay current in CPRPR/AED/O2 and First Aid certifications, renewed annually, YMCA provided if needed
- Must complete Redwoods Trainings within 30 days of hire and renewed annually
- Coursework in Child Development, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or related field
- Job consists of working with early childhood up to school age children and requires participation in activities with all age groups
- Must have an interest in and like children and exemplify and support the YMCA philosophy
- Must exemplify and support the philosophy of the YMCA
- Must be 18 years of age with high school diploma or GED
