POSITION SUMMARY :
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents / caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
1. Assists Summer Day Camp Counselors with assigned group of children.
2. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
3. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
4. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
5. Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
6. Actively participates in department and branch staff meetings and / or related trainings.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS :
1. At least 16 years of age
2. Ability to work with children aged 4-12 years in a day camp setting
3. Ability to supervise and play with children in a pool setting required
4. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas : outdoor living, songs / music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games or art
5. Ability to work independently with attention to detail required
6. Complete before first shift : program-specific training
7. Complete within 30 days of hire : YMCA cause & culture training; Child Abuse Prevention Training, BLS CPR / AED / First Aid
8. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check
