QUALIFICATIONS
The Aquatics Facilities Director oversees all aspects of aquatic facilities across Greater Providence with primary responsibility for the maintenance, safety, and regulatory compliance of pools, splash pads, water features, ponds, and waterfronts, including those at Camp Fuller. This role ensures the efficient operation of all aquatics systems, equipment, and infrastructure, while also supporting broader facilities management duties as needed.
Approximately 80% of the role will focus on aquatics facilities and related operations, with the remaining 20% supporting general maintenance and capital project initiatives across Greater Providence YMCA branches.
Aquatics Facility Oversight (80%)
- Serves as the lead for all YMCA aquatics systems, including pools, splash pads, ponds, and waterfront features.
- Oversee regular and preventative maintenance of aquatic mechanical systems including pumps, filtration, chemical feed systems, heaters, and controls.
- Ensures all pools and aquatic facilities are operating in compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.
- Maintains appropriate records of pool operations, inspections, and water quality logs.
- Coordinates with branch Aquatics Directors and Executive Directors to support daily aquatics operations and seasonal openings (e.g., Camp Fuller summer readiness).
- Leads capital improvement and renovation projects for aquatic areas, preparing cost estimates, coordinating contractors, and monitoring progress.
- Develops and implements aquatic safety and emergency response procedures in partnership with Association Aquatics Director and branch teams.
- Works with outside regulatory agencies (health departments, fire departments, etc.) to ensure compliance and successful inspections.
- Maintains inventory of aquatics equipment and recommends purchases and upgrades as necessary.
- Ensures chemical storage and handling complies with safety standards; supports training programs to ensure staff are knowledgeable and compliant.

- Ability to travel to various GPYMCA locations to perform work assignments as needed.
- Supports property management coordination and vendor relationships as they relate to aquatic and shared facility infrastructure.
- Participates in planning and budgeting for facilities maintenance and capital improvement projects, especially those involving aquatics.
- Assists with broader facilities initiatives and provides operational guidance to branch maintenance teams as needed.
- Responds to emergency facility issues on a rotating or on-call basis, including aquatics-related concerns.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification required within 90 days of hire: preference given to candidates with current certification and required to maintain CPO certification through employment.
- Minimum 5 - 7 years of experience in aquatic facilities maintenance or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of pool operation systems, water chemistry, aquatic safety standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Familiarity with general facilities systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) is a plus.
- Ability to lead and train staff, oversee vendors, and manage multiple projects across locations.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for travel to branch sites and Camp Fuller
- WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be comfortable working in and around wet environments, mechanical rooms, and outdoor aquatic settings.
- Some weekend and evening availability may be required, particularly during peak seasons or emergency situations.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and perform maintenance duties as needed.
- It is the Employees’ responsibility to maintain all certifications and renew them in a timely manner in accordance with Certifying Organization. A current driver’s license is required.
