This is a seasonal position during Camp for 12.5 weeks in June through August
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision and support of the Operations Director, the Camp Fuller Head Chef will support the nutrition and dietary needs of the camp community. They will be responsible for supporting ensuring that campers and staff are fed appropriately, with food of a strong nutritional value, in a clean workspace to fuel the energy needed for a positive camp experience for our campers and staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the camp kitchen and food service staff in the daily preparation and kitchen management
- Support in the service of three meals a day to the entire Camp Fuller community.
- Ensure the kitchen is kept to a high quality of standard that meets Department of Health requirements on cleanliness, food storage, service, and dish washing requirements
- Follow all Department of Health Standards in food preparation including but not limited to cook temperatures, cross contamination, personal protective equipment, and food disease prevention
- Evaluate and prepare for all dietary restrictions and need of the Camp staff and campers
- Work as a member of the Greater Camp Fuller Staff in creating a great camp experience for campers
- Participate in pre-camp training (1-2 weeks depending on arrival) to gain the knowledge and camaraderie of being on the Camp Fuller Staff
- Uphold all policies and procedures of YMCA Camp Fuller including but not limited to Risk Management, Supervision, Child Protection, and Safety Standards.

- A desire to have a positive impact on the life of the youth and other staff at camp
- Experience in working in a commercial kitchen preferred but not required
- Ability to lift 30 lbs or willingness to ask for help if not
- Ability to move around camp quickly enough to keep campers safe
- Strong comprehension and critical thinking skills to be able to respond to challenges and emergencies effectively
- Willingness to express challenges or struggles so they can be addressed by Camp Leadership
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

- The role does not have any direct youth supervision responsibility but there is an expectation of all staff at Camp Fuller that if something is seen with youth behavior that needs to be addressed that any adult would step in.
- Responsible for supervising the Food Service Staff
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Experience working in the food service industry is required
- Experience working in an outdoor setting is preferred, but not required Experience being part of a successful team is preferred, but not required
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to communicate in English. Does not need to be fluent but must be able to understand needs of youth when expressed and understand safety requirements
CERTIFICATIONS / TRAINING
Must hold a Serve Safe certification
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Camp is a rustic, outdoor setting. Counselor must be able to live in a rustic cabin, most without electricity, and living with youth. Camp does have communal spaces for electronics charging, Wi-Fi access, and break spaces. Camp is also on a salt water pond.
TIME OFF
If living on camp, it is a 24 hour a day job. The following is the time off structure:
- 24 hour Day off every week
- 6 hour Night off every week
- Additional Breaks will be offered as available during the day
Fuller food service staff work in a shift structure but if they are on camp, they could be called to support in an emergency at any time. If not living on camp, time off would be worked out with Operations Director
