Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Staff Associate is responsible for the effective operation of our aquatic programs and facilities, providing essential support to the Aquatics Director in managing day-to-day activities. They will play a crucial role in ensuring safety, promoting aquatic programs, and enhancing the overall experience for our members. Responsibilities include assisting in staffing, training, and supervising assigned aquatic staff, as well as ensuring compliance with safety regulations and programs. The Aquatics Staff Associate will be instrumental in coordinating swim lessons, aquatic events, and facility maintenance. Furthermore, they will use excellent communication skills to engage with members, parents, and staff. They will demonstrate leadership capabilities, strong organizational skills, and a passion for promoting a positive aquatic environment. The position is responsible for demonstrating YMCA leadership competencies to ensure the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Overall responsibility for assigned aquatic programs, and services at the Sands Family YMCA branch. This includes group rentals, and special events.
· Responsible for hiring, training, supervision, and continued development of assigned aquatic staff.
· Responsible for facilitating swim lesson revenue growth and overall enhancement and increase of the aquatic’s programs and services.
· Act as a liaison between parent and program regarding parent or participant concerns and work as the key leader to assure that a safe, fun and quality program is provided in all areas.
· General oversight of all on-site programs in accordance with the policies, values, and standards established by the Association.
· In conjunction with the Aquatics Director, oversee the overall facility appearance, and related equipment including proper maintenance of pool, hot tub etc.
· Work with Aquatics Director to develop and manage department budget. Ensure a strong fiscal position and appropriate resource allocation
· Ensure all program operations are consistent with Association procedures, including pool maintenance, emergency, accident, purchasing, personnel, and accounting systems. Ensure
department is adhering to NYS Health Code, Emergency Action Plans, and Association Safety Policy.
· Implement programs that identify safety, quality, and excellent customer service as top priorities.
· Serve as a member of the branch staff team, assisting with special events, programming, and committees as assigned.
· Work with branch board members, volunteers, and committees as necessary.
· Maintain all required certifications.
· Attend all required meetings and training.
· All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
· Must be at least 21 year’s of age and possess a high school diploma or GED. A bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Physical Education or related field preferred.
· Must have a full range of knowledge in instructional and competitive aquatics
· Must have at least one year experience implementing and managing high quality programs.
· At least one experience in a supervisory role with skills in recruiting, training and staff management.
· Must be self-motivated, hands on team leader with strong communications, networking and collaboration skills.
· High level of attention to detail and quality of programming, service and facilities.
· Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage several projects at once and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
· Polished, professional demeanor with excellent written and spoken communication skills.
· Demonstrated success in driving revenue and managing expenses.
· Experience in fundraising and individual gift solicitation and cultivation
· Must have current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard, Standard First Aid, O2 administration, Lifeguard and extensive Swim Lesson experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be able to stand for extended duration of shift.
· Must be able to bend and stoop frequently.
· Must be able to lift at least twenty-five pounds.
· Must be able to stay in the pool for an extended period of time.
· Must be able to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distances, and communicate swiftly and effectively with emergency personnel in person and over the telephone.
· Must be able to hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment, including in the water, understanding that significant background noise in aquatic space
