The position offers a base salary of $60,000, with potential for additional performance-based bonuses.
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Director of Fitness & Personal Training oversees the development and operations of health and wellness programs, including personal training, group exercise, and all wellness-related activities. This role will have a heavy emphasis on the direct management and strategic oversight of the personal training department, ensuring high-quality service delivery, member engagement, and achievement of program & revenue goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Revenue & Program Development :
- Develop and implement revenue-generating programs such as personal training, private group training, and specialized programs (e.g., athletic performance).
- Establish and track monthly and quarterly revenue goals.
- Achieve retention goals, revenue targets and participation benchmarks for personal training and other revenue generating programs.
- Analyze market trends and member needs to enhance programs.
- Use member engagement strategies to increase program participation and retention.
- Track group exercise KPIs and achieve participation and retention.
Staff Development & Leadership :
Recruit, hire, train, and supervise personal trainers, group fitness instructors, and fitness staff.Conduct staff evaluations, provide development opportunities, and lead in-service workshops.Create a positive, results-driven team environment through leadership and recognition.Participate in relevant YMCA program cabinets and attend necessary training.Operational Management :
Oversee daily fitness operations, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and equipment maintenance.Ensure compliance with YMCA safety and risk management protocols.Conduct audits for fitness floor scheduling and resource allocation.Manage purchasing of equipment, parts, and supplies.Complete payroll for all Health & Wellness staff.Member Engagement & Community Partnerships :
Actively engage with members to promote programs, resolve issues, and gather feedback.Facilitate member onboarding experiences, including fitness assessments and consultations.Supervise and expand existing programs while establishing new initiatives based on community needs.Collaborate with community organizations, businesses, and agencies.Assist the Branch Director in YMCA campaigns and fundraising events, including the "One Y" campaign.Fiscal Management :
Develop and manage the annual fitness department budget, including revenue, expenses, and payroll.Monitor financial performance and adjust strategies to meet goals.LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES :

Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent highly preferred.Two years supervisory experience.Strong relationship driven personality with strong social and communication skills. Must be an expert in providing great member service.Excellent interpersonal, public relations and written communication skills are required. Must also be comfortable with oral presentations.Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments ofthe community.
Must understand the basic concepts of a voluntary, non-profit organization, as well as the structure of the YMCA as a partnership of volunteers and staff and accept a commitment to the YMCA mission.Employee must have working knowledge of a Mac environment, Gmail, and Microsoft Office Suite.Certifications required within the first week of hire : Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens, Defensive Driving, and Hazardous CommunicationsCertifications required within the first 60 days of hire : YMCA approved basic life saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen. This position must have the ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.Must be 21 years of age with a valid drivers license and have the capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.WORKING CONDITIONS :
Work is performed in a fast-paced facility environment. Position requires attending meetings at different off-site locations.Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and / or documents and making changes as necessary / required.Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration. This position requires analytical abilities and multitasking in order to identify problems and recommend solutions.Job requires accuracy and attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills, while maintaining high levels of initiative in order to work within deadlines.Occasional stooping and bending with regular lifting of up to 20 pounds is required.Incumbent must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, as well as, able to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads, and writing utensils is essential.
