This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Instructs youth or adult classes in a specialized program area, such as dance, any of the martial arts, arts and humanities, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Plans and instructs specialty classes for youth and adults following YMCA standards and guidelines or other Nationally recognized certifications.
- Plan and Execute Art Lessons : Develop and implement creative, age-appropriate art lessons tailored to children aged 3–12.Incorporate various art techniques, such as painting, drawing, collage, and sculpture, while focusing on skill-building and self-expression.
- Create a Positive Environment : Foster an inclusive, supportive atmosphere where children feel comfortable exploring their creativity.Manage classroom behavior effectively, promoting respect and teamwork among participants.
- Prepare and Manage Materials : Ensure all necessary art supplies and equipment are prepared before classes begin.Keep the art area organized and clean, adhering to YMCA safety and hygiene protocols.
- Engage with Families and Participants : Communicate regularly with parents to share their child’s progress and highlight accomplishments.Build relationships with participants to encourage their growth and enthusiasm for art.
- Ensure Child Safety and Well-Being : Supervise children during all activities, ensuring their safety and active engagement.Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures.
- Inspire Creativity and Confidence : Encourage children to take creative risks and develop their unique artistic voice.
- Sets up and takes down class equipment. Reports equipment problems.
- Demonstrates proper care, storage of equipment and supplies, and cleaning of environment.
- Attends staff meetings and approved trainings as required. Maintains current certifications relative to specialty area.
- Observes and discusses individual progress with participants. Develops rapport with members and responds to related questions.
- Maintains respect of the child while providing discipline and guidance for children that is age appropriate.
- Discusses and promotes all YMCA programs. Motivates participants to commit to long-term participation.
- Communicates effectively and exhibit a professional attitude with all other staff, parents and children.
- Possesses a working knowledge of safety and emergency procedures and be able to exercise sound judgment, and report any unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately.
- Serves as Primary Responder for all accidents and incidents
- Completes routine and required forms to include, but not limited to : attendance records, observation records and incident and injury reports
- May be required to work hours outside of normal work schedule for staff meetings, trainings, extended program hours, parent nights or association events.
- Any additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
