What are the responsibilities and job description for the Archery Specialist - Summer 2025 - YMCA Camp Stony Brook Acres position at YMCA OF GREATER SPRINGFIELD INC?
Essential Functions:
This person will play an important part in the work that we do each day. In addition to all other duties as assigned, this role will:
- Create an Archery based curriculum that aligns with the YMCA of Greater Springfield's values and mission, tailored to the age ranges that they serve
- Archery specialists are not required to be archery certified prior to hiring
- Ensure that the curriculum is accessible to campers of all ages and abilities
- Specialists are also expected to sing camp songs throughout the day and participate in or lead other camp spirit-based activities
- Uphold and follow all values, practices, and policies of the YMCA of Greater Springfield.
- Adhere to, and act in accordance, with all camp policies particularly as they relate to safety.
- Adhere to, and act following, the requirements of the local Department of Health and all other Massachusetts laws governing our summer camp programs.
- Work closely with Camp Directors to support, facilitate, and implement camp programs that include, but are not limited to: attendance, transportation, games, activities, swimming, and other typical day camp activities.
- Work with staff to ensure a safe environment for participants.
- Incumbent must maintain high standards for all staff and programming.
- S/he must promote the best practices of customer service.
- Assist in developing new programs/promotions/special events and fundraising.
- Must professionally represent the YMCA and promote a cheerful environment during each work shift.
- Occasional weekend and overnight shifts are required.
This role will generally work Monday through Friday between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, depending on pre/post-camp assignments.
- Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire.
- Preferred 2 years of experience in programming and camp operations or equivalent Y experience.
- Must have at least 2 years of experience in program design and implementation.
- Must have a high school diploma, its equivalent, or be enrolled in a GED program
- Additional years of professional experience or a Rank of E-5 or better may be used in place of education requirements where permitted
- Must have, or be willing to earn, and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
- Ability to follow sound judgment calls in a fast-paced, participant-focused environment.
- Demonstrated ability to provide organizational leadership, coaching, and personal development support.
- Proven experience in teaching and directing diverse populations in youth enrichment programs.
- Must be able to role-model positive behaviors.
- Must be able to work in a high-value, and potentially high-stress, environment.
- An ability to work with a diverse population.
- Exhibit core YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Excellent relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to swim, ride a bicycle, get wet (pool and rain), traverse wooded terrain, and be exposed to outdoor summer conditions for extended periods.
- Associate / bachelor's degree in related course work (e.g. Education, Social Work, Ecology) (Preferred)
