Essential Functions:

This person will play an important part in the work that we do each day. In addition to all other duties as assigned, this role will:

• During pre-camp training, discuss health and safety procedures, precautions, and routines with staff.
• Report all admissions to the infirmary to the Camp Director.
• Guide counselors regarding their responsibilities in noting and reporting illness, injury or unsafe practices and conditions that might contribute to camper and staff accidents.
• Check camp for health and safety conditions daily.
• Administer all medications and treatments according to the Physician’s Standing Orders or Instructions for The First Aider.
• Keep records of all such treatment. Maintained health Log and files by the laws of the State of Prepare the first aid kits for emergency use to all counselors for use on hikes, outpost camps, and trips and instructed counselors in current first aid methods.
• All such treatments must be reported back to the nurse for inclusion in the report. Be responsible for any drugs, medicines, and first aid kits brought to camp by campers and staff and use as directed by a physician of the camper (according to prescription).
• Give a sympathetic ear to staff as their problems surface and work with the program director and camp director as a team in counseling the staff. In addition to the “Close of Camp evaluation”, make a written report that includes equipment inventory, requisitions for the coming summer, treatment records of campers and staff, infirmary and hospital admissions, visits to MD, recommendations for improvements, and records for an insurance company.

Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.

Qualifications

• RN., A.P.R.N current ARC First Aid and CPR certifications.
• Able to walk one mile over rough terrain in under 15 minutes without any assistance.
• Emotional maturity, good moral character, and integrity. Enjoyment of the out-of-doors.
• An understanding and acceptance of the fundamental aims and objectives of the YMCA of Greater Springfield.
