JOB TITLE: Aquatics Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Assigned Director
FLSA TYPE: Non-Exempt, hourly
JOB PURPOSE:
The Aquatics Coordinator oversees all aspects of aquatic programming including training, supervision of lifeguards, coordination of swim lessons and all aspects of Aquatic programming for the branch during the summer season. Under the leadership of the Associate Executive Director this position supports the work of Y. The Aquatics Coordinator will administer all functions related to the Aquatics Department with a direct focus on the member experience, safety, recruitment of participants, retention, safety, and customer service. All staff are representatives of the philosophy, mission and goal of the YMCA and its youth development programs. Staff must strive to work cooperatively with fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list):
- Responsible for successful management of staffing, programming and supplies for the summer season
- Ensure the delivery of quality swimming lessons.
- Increase retention of swim lesson participants.
- Work toward increase in membership retention
- Recruit, develop and lead aquatics staff including lifeguards, swim instructors and pool attendants.
- Work with Property Director to ensure all pool operations align with Tulsa Health Department and YMCA of Greater Tulsa operating guidelines.
- Responsible for ensuring that all aquatics facilities are maintained to expected levels of cleanliness
- Communicate with branch and association leadership staff so members are aware of all programs & opportunities available to them.
- Assist with annual promotion plan for all aquatics programs including flyers, brochures, website, newsletter, news releases, advertisements, etc.
- Coordinate scheduling of pool parties with branch staff so facility operates seamlessly.
- Accurate and timely with all assignments, deadlines, etc.
- Responsible for all communication coming from Aquatics the branch team.
- This position supports the association team of aquatics directors to create annual training plans to ensure the recruitment and quality of lifeguards and swim instructors.
Required:
- Must be 18 years old
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working in Aquatics Programming
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid/Lifeguard Certification (will provide upon hire)
- Volunteer or Staff supervision experience
- Knowledge of aquatics programming and safety issues
Preferred:
- Knowledge of budgeting & expense control, a plus
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Certified Pool Operator (will provide upon hire)
- Bilingual - English/Spanish
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification
- Experience teaching swim lessons
