POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Coach and Site Coordinator is responsible for on deck coaching and attendance at swim meets. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for carrying out our promise to strengthen the foundations of community with focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility while upholding our values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Instruct swimmers in 4 competitive strokes, starts, turns and interval training.
- Encourage participation in swim meets and other team activities.
- Work at all GCY hosted meets and travel meets, as needed.
- Handle administrative tasks such as attendance, promoting swim meets and assisting with meet entries, etc.
- Attend educational activities and clinics.
- Lead coaching staff at assigned site, as well as maintain coaching schedule for the site.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with supervision of all Assistant Swim Team Coaches under the guidance of the Director of Competitive Swimming. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

- Combination of coaching, swim instruction or teaching experience plus competitive swimming background.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization, including children and their parents. Ability to write workouts, and understand and calculate split times for races. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately using written, verbal and nonverbal methods. Ability to work as part of a team regardless of the expressed role within the team, and ability to change roles as needed. Ability to seek collaborations with staff, members and other organizations to reach a common goal. - Certifications: All current USA Swimming/YMCA coaching certifications which include, but are not limited to, Safety Training for Coaches (online and in-water), CPR PRO/AED, Foundations of Coaching, Concussion Protocol Training, Athlete Protection Training and USADA Coach’s Advantage Tutorial
