Kitchen Staff

Pay: $13/hr.

POSITION SUMMARY

Kitchen Staff members are responsible for safely preparing and cooking quality food for summer campers and groups that utilize the facility and for helping to keep a clean and safe kitchen area. Kitchen staff may be hired with a primary duty in mind, but can be assigned a variety of roles within the kitchen functions that can change on a daily basis. The various roles include Lead Cook, Co-Cook (lead prep), Salad Prep (prep 2) and Dishwasher. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for carrying out our promise to strengthen the foundations of community with focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility while upholding our values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Preparing food, including but not limited to cutting up vegetables and salads.
2. Cooking food including operating oven, stove and fryer to cook all foods to required temperatures.
3. Cleaning kitchen including but not limited to washing dishes, wiping counters and sinks, mopping floors, cleaning kitchen appliances.
4. Serving food to campers and staff with a friendly attitude.
5. All kitchen tasks should be done by kitchen procedures that exceed health and American Camp Association regulations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute ratio, and percent. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Must love children and interacting with them, have a positive attitude and demeanor about their work and working environment, work well as part of the kitchen team and actively demonstrate the YMCA values. Must be honest and show respect for themselves and all Camp Weaver staff. Must be able to work independently, be adaptable to changes in responsibility and circumstances and always be willing to learn. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented, and goal driven environment.
4. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
5. Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth perception.
6. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
7. CPR/AED, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogen training required upon hire and must remain current throughout employment. ServSafe Certification preferred prior to hire.
