POSITION SUMMARY
The Adventure Activity and Outdoor Education Instructor is responsible for facilitating and teaching a wide variety of adventure and environmental-based activities for rental and school group programs. This seasonal position works a full schedule during retreat seasons from August – November, and again March – May. Living on site during retreat months may be possible, but is not required for the duration of the season(s) although some overnight stays may be required. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for carrying out our promise to strengthen the foundations of community with focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility while upholding our values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Serve as a gracious group host, providing a high-quality experience and serving as a direct point of contact for each attending group.
- Lead and oversee a diverse range of activities, including Teambuilding Exercises, High Ropes, Low Ropes, Sports, Archery, Canoes and Group Games. Training will be provided for these activities.

- Collaborate with the Retreat Program Director and Maintenance Director on light-duty maintenance and housekeeping tasks during non-group periods.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - No specific education or experience is required. Experience at a summer camp is preferred
- Proficiency in communicating with participants from diverse socio-economic backgrounds
- Positive personality, and the ability to effectively interact with people of all ages and backgrounds.
- Physical fitness and agility to perform duties such as using hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, lifting objects up to 100 pounds on a regular basis and prolonged standing and walking.
- No specific vision requirements beyond the general ability to navigate all outdoor activities.
- Willingness to work in outdoor environments, including wet or humid conditions, high places, and varying weather conditions. Comfort working in proximity to moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and vibrations.
- Certifications – CPR/AED and First Aid certification is required upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
