POSITION SUMMARY
The Playzone Staff is responsible for providing care for children ages infant to 12 years old. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for carrying out our promise to strengthen the foundations of community with focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility while upholding our values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Engaging in age-appropriate activity with all children in the Play Zone area such as (but not limited to) reading, board games, playing with the children in activities of their choosing, arts & crafts, physical activity, etc.
- Getting to know the children and forming relationships that will draw them in, giving parents comfort and confidence in their child’s well-being while they are engaged in activities at the Y.
- Carrying out branch-defined cleaning procedures for the room and all contents to maintain a clean, healthy and safe environment for the children in our care.
- Following branch-specific rules for changing diapers, assisting children with toileting, and contacting parents regarding children in distress.

QUALIFICATIONS

- No minimum education required.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports. Ability to speak effectively with parents and children, and effectively communicate policies to parents. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form in order to maintain safe conditions at all times.
- Requires the ability to redirect a child’s attention to assist in separating from the parent; the ability to positively resolve conflict between children and with parents; the ability to cope with a child crying for up to 15 minutes. Requires a passion for working with children and a strong commitment to the position, being at work on time and all the time as scheduled. Requires initiative to develop, implement and engage with the children in age-appropriate activities.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; smell; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must occasionally climb or balance, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision requires for this position include peripheral vision and depth perception.
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee will occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
- Certifications required upon hire include CPR/AED, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens.
