POSITION SUMMARY
The Wellness Director is responsible for developing, marketing and providing supervision for the branch wellness programs, creating a safe, enjoyable and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for carrying out our promise to strengthen the foundations of community with focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility while upholding our values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Organizes, develops and evaluates wellness programs, looking for opportunities for innovative programming as well as potential modifications of existing programming.
- Organizes and develops special events relating to the wellness function, maintaining an atmosphere of inclusion and enthusiasm for the Y’s mission.
- Develops, implements and monitors department budget in support of the Y’s non-profit business model.
- Purchases, secures and maintains facilities and equipment within the wellness areas for the safety and well-being of the program participants.
- Leads association and staff training related to wellness staff development, essential duties and required certifications.
- Participates as a team leader for the branch in member recruitment, retention and satisfaction by ensuring a safe and enjoyable atmosphere that promotes member wellness and engagement.
- Fills in for subordinate staff in case of staff absences and as part of the regular schedule to facilitate a positive member experience in Group Exercise, Personal Training, Wellness coaching and the wellness center.
- Assists branch in volunteer development as needed and required by Branch Executive.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises all employees in the Wellness Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. See item 6 for additional advanced degree or certification requirement.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to communicate effectively across all socio-economic levels of the community to inspire and encourage effectively participation in all wellness activities.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Employee must be able to lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Nationally recognized personal training or group exercise certification or MS in Sports Medicine or Exercise Science or related field preferred for hire. CPR/AED, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogen certifications required upon hire.
Salary : $42,000 - $46,000
