The Swim Coordinator (Summer Outreach Program) supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position is responsible for coordinating the Summer Outreach Program, facilitating communication between YMCA staff, apartment community partners, and potential sponsors. The coordinator also plays an active role in delivering lessons, which will serve as a positive role model and create a safe, welcoming and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities:Program Coordination & Administration
- Collaborate with directors and instructors to implement effective outreach strategies.
- Schedule off-site swim lessons and coordinate with instructors, directors, and volunteers.
- Prepare class attendance sheets and collect participant surveys to assess program effectiveness.
- Maintain volunteer records, track hours, and submit reports as needed.
- Assist with administrative tasks and provide branch support.
- Instruct, lifeguard, or coach as part of this role.
- Ensure a safe learning environment through regular safety checks and pool rule enforcement.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, participants, and parents regarding program expectations and safety.
- Handle and resolve aquatics concerns; notify the director of any unresolved issues.
- Open and close the aquatics area according to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Coach and mentor Level 1 & 2 lifeguard/instructor staff.
- Serve as a role model with professionalism, punctuality, and a positive attitude.
- Greet and welcome participants; ensure instructional methods and equipment are appropriate.
- Maintain positive relationships with staff, participants, and families.
- Provide accurate and timely responses to member/guest inquiries.
Other expectations
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
- Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
- Follow mandated reporting requirements.

Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
- Maintenance Employees-ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms), etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Minimum of two years of experience in Aquatics
- Strong swimming skills and thorough knowledge of swimming fundamentals and water safety.
- Ability to demonstrate and teach basic swim strokes and water safety skills.
- Lifeguard Certification (current or obtained before program start).
- Must complete the New Staff Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention, and Blood Borne Pathogen training within the first 30-days of employment.
- CPR/First Aid Aquatics Certification (current or obtained before program starts).
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and articulate and enforce Y policies in a positive manner.
- Proven experience in building relationships with families, health and safety seekers of all ages and abilities; excellent written and verbal communication.
BENEFICIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working with children and teens is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to connect with supervisors, parents, and young participants.
