GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Youth Development, the Base Director is responsible for planning and assisting with the daily program as it relates to children and their daily activities. Major emphasis is on program excellence and developing quality care of the highest standard. The Base Director will support ongoing program continuity by ensuring that scheduled program and facility use plans are followed and adhering to MSDE regulations and standards.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Incumbent must be 20 years of age and possess 90 hr. School Age Credit Classes and 12 hours of continued training every year, must meet all OCFS regulations and have experience leading groups of children which include:
800 Hours of experience
AND
90 hours in Childcare Development and School Age Curriculum or a related field with a plan of study leading to a credential AND two years’ experience related to caring for children (one of the years has to be working with school age children).
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Develop and implement unit lesson plans.
· Develop and implement daily classroom activity.
· Ensure parents/guardians sign in and out on a daily basis.
· Cultivate and maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers and parents.
· Create and maintain a safe and attractive learning environment.
· Expand job knowledge and classroom skills on an ongoing basis.
· Organize center events (field trips, school pictures, etc.)
· Perform other tasks related to the operation of the Base Program. Knows and follows established childcare policies.
· The member relations aspect of this position requires that relationship building be the number one priority at all times, attending to the needs and requests of health seekers, members, and all people within the YMCA in a courteous and friendly manner.
· Attend all required meetings and training.
· Complete the following training within 30 days of hire: Staff Expectations, First Aid, and CPR.
· Complete New Employee Orientation within 60 days of hire.
· Keep all training as required by MSDE or the Hagerstown Y up to date.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Ability to supervise children by sight and sound at all times.
· Ability to move quickly to react to safety issues in the setting (i.e. climbing, aggressive behavior).
· Ability to remain clam, objective and respectful in potentially stressful situations (i.e. crying upset child, upset parent, or upset staff).
· Ability to be flexible and willing to adjust to change.
· Ability to move around the room to assist children and supervise children with daily activities, social interaction, physical and emotional needs.
· Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
· Ability to work in all elements (i.e. outside in all weather)
