What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard- Potterfield Pool position at YMCA of Hagerstown?
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum age of 15.
· Certifications: CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens.
· Current American Red Cross Lifeguard.
· Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
· Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
· Must be available on days, evenings, and weekends. Must be available to work a minimum of two weekends per month.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
· Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required. (including incident reports).
· Maintains effective, positive relationships with members, participants, and other staff.
· Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Performs chemical testing. Maintains accurate records as required by the Health Department code.
· Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
· Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and closing.
· No cellphones, smart watches, earbuds, or other smart devices are permitted during shifts.
· Attending all staff meetings, Mandatory in-service training, and completing Redwood’s training.
· Able to administer swim test to patrons to determine level of swimming.
· Customer Service
· Attendance: Adhere to procedures for (clocking on time, late, call off)
· Paycom: adhere to the 7-minute rule on clock in and clock out
· Effective Communication with participants and your supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the aquatic area. Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
· Meet strength and lifting requirements.
· See and observe all sections of and assigned zone or area of responsibility.
· Swim 1200 yds a month.
· Able to retrieve the Brick off the bottom of the pool assigned to.
· No cell phones/smart watches (IOS or Android) are permitted during lifeguard shifts.
