Title: Summer Camp Coordinator
Status: Full Time Seasonal Position
Location: YMCA of Hannibal
Reports to: Summer Camp Director
Pay Rate: $14.50/hour
Job Summary: The Summer Camp Coordinator’s main duty will be to work closely with Camp Director, Camp Counselors, and L.I.T.s. He/she will ensure a quality experience for children and parents and/or staff focused on YMCA core values; honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Working to facilitate scheduled activities and support for field trips. Supporting counselors and campers in a safe and fun environment for summer camp in with Summer Camp Director’s goals and vision for the YMCA of Hannibal Summer Camp program.
General Responsibilities:
- Must have high level of energy and patience.
- Use positive language when disciplining a child
- Ensure high quality program implementation by providing a safe, supportive, interactive, and engaging environment
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of assigned programs which can include staffing as needed, program sessions, special events, and field trips
- Maintain strong working relationships with related locations and parents.
- Demonstrate ability to manage multiple responsibilities, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports in a professional and timely fashion
- Greet participants by name and communicate with youth, parents and community in a respectful, positive manner
- Ensure equipment, supplies, and materials are available as needed
- Attend all staff meetings and complete required staff trainings
- Model self-control, respect, and cooperation
- Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to direct supervisor
· Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping youth safe in Y facilities and programs.
- Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including electronic communication with youth, and others specific to working with teens.
- Provide guidance to volunteers, parents, and others.
- At the Y we are a team – there may be other duties as assigned.
Job Duties:
- Supervise and monitor the day camp operations, staff and children
- Oversee the filling out Daily Youth Reports
- Interact with children/parents that check into the childcare programs.
- Enforce all YMCA policies
- Schedule staff and ensure staff do not deviate from the schedule
- Schedule L.I.T. participants and ensure they do not deviate from the schedule
- Inform the children of the core values of the YMCA in positive way when disciplining a child.
- Keep all parents informed of their child’s behavior. Fill out incident/accident forms and follow up with Summer Camp Director
- Communicate by use of BrightWheel and group communication apps
- Assist Summer camp director with training staff and L.I.T.s to create a safe and fun environment
Skills, Education, and Experience
- Maintain an up-to-date CPR, First Aid, AED certification
- Child abuse training
- Knowledge of childcare and developmental stages of children
- Strong communication skills and organization skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Pass background check
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Be punctual, prepared for responsibilities
- Project a professional appearance
- High level of energy and creativity required
- At least 2 years of childcare experience preferred
Physical Qualifications:
Speaking, hearing, seeing, reading, writing, typing, lifting up to 40 pounds, walking, standing for at least 5- 10 hours. Leading staff and children in games, activities and or crafts indoors and outside.
Working Conditions:
Conditions are varied. The Coordinator will have some time in an office setting but will be on site and a part of the programs they are organizing. Inside and outside, field trips and on YMCA campus. Swimming and being an active participant in camp activities is a requirement. Commitment to the 10 weeks of program is a necessity, days off are an option with planning. Interacting with children/staff daily.
Restrictions:
- All employees are required to work at least 8 hours per month to maintain complimentary membership status.
- All other guidelines must be followed in accordance with the Employee Handbook.
