What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wellness Coach position at YMCA of Harrison County?
Job Summary:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This person provides supervision and instruction to members in the Wellness Center, maintains cleanliness, and is responsible for helping members reach their fitness goals by offering machine orientations, fitness assessments and assistance.
Job Duties:
1. Teach members how to safely use the fitness equipment.
2. Builds effective relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
3. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
4. Attend staff meetings.
5. Organizes and puts away equipment. Reports damaged equipment
6. Attend to the cleanliness and organization of the fitness center by completing the daily maintenance checklist.
Additional Expectations:
6. Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times and safely supervise activities.
7. Monitors the safety and well-being of participants and guests.
8. Be able to articulate the mission to all staff, members and participants.
9. Positively communicates information on YMCA programs and membership.
10. Assists with the training of new Wellness Coaches.
11. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum age of 16 years old.
2. High School education or equivalent.
3. Certification requirements
(within 30 days of hire): CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens;
(within 60 days of hire): Principles of Member Health & Wellness, Foundations of Listen First, Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y, and Foundations of Strength & Conditioning at the Y.
4. Interest in personal health and fitness
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively. High level of alertness, concentration, and initiative. Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform job responsibilities. Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop/bend. Ability to conduct classes and activities relating to fitness.
