RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrate the ability to move rhythmically to the beat of the music including the ability to incorporate optimal usage of cueing, tempo, choreography, and safe transitional, movements from one pattern to another.
- A highly sufficient degree of energy and have the endurance to complete each fitness class.
- Responsible for the efficiency of the lesson program through rigorous adherence to standards set for progression and honest evaluation of student's abilities.
- Responsible for service to members and participants by learning and using member’s names and being available before and after class for questions from participants and parents.
- Responsible for attending all scheduled classes within a session; when an absence is unavailable, secures a substitute and provides lesson plans for that substitute.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct fitness/wellness orientations and perform fitness assessments.
- Responsible for scheduling of appointments and monitoring completion of purchased sessions with each client.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and adaptability with the client making each session fun and enjoyable while motivating participants
- Ability to bring in own clients by acting as fitness attendant and getting to know members.
- Responsible for promotion of services within guidelines of the YMCA of Indiana County.
- Maintain current personal training and first aid/CPR certification.
- Serve as effective fitness and lifestyles role model for members.
KNOWLEDGE – SKILLS - ABILITIES:
Education: CPR and First Aid certifications within 90 days. (available at the Y)
Experience:
Group Exercise Instructor I: 0-2 years’ experience instructing group exercise classes or 1 national certification (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, AAAI, or equivalent) OR complete Y of USA Group Exercise Instructor certification. Must obtain YMCA required training within 90 days of hire. Must demo class for Director prior to being put on the schedule.
- Education: Experience in instruction of physiologically sound fitness and weight training programs. Must hold current CPR/AED certification or sign-up for a course at the YMCA.
KNOWLEDGE – SKILLS - ABILITIES:
Education: CPR and First Aid certifications within 90 days.

Working Conditions: Moderate – High intensity physical level required for appropriate instruction of the class.
Equipment Used: Varies based on class.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical Activity: The ability to be physically active for long periods of time without getting tired or out of breath.
- Lifting: The ability to lift or push/pull 35 pounds occasionally.
- Standing: The ability to stand for extensive periods of time.
- Movement: The ability to bend, stretch, twist, reach out, squat, and kneel frequently.
- Coordination: The ability to coordinate the movement of several parts of the body such as arms and legs, while moving frequently.
- Balance: The ability to keep or regain balance or stay upright when in an unstable position.
- Hearing: The ability to hear sounds and recognize the difference between them.
- Vision: The ability to see differences between colors, shades and brightness.
- Communication: The ability to communicate in an effective manner.
- Gross Manipulation: The ability to seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with the hands.
- Alternate sit/stand: The ability to choose between sitting or standing as needed.
