The YMCA of Indiana County is seeking candidates who enjoy aquatics and are Lifeguard certified to oversee the preschool swimming program. If you are a certified Lifeguard, like children and mid-day we would like to hear from you. We offer a free employee membership.
GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Lifeguard has responsibilities in conjunction with the safety, cleanliness and operations during regular operational hours. The primary function of the lifeguard will be to safeguard the health and safety of members, class participants, and guests. Demonstrates a commitment to YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
EXPERIENCE - EDUCATION - KNOWLEDGE – SKILLS - ABILITIES:
- Previous swimming experience required.
- Ability to successfully complete Lifeguard Certification.
- Must be able to pass background clearances.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communicates effectively with participants, team members and supervisor. · Ensures the safety and welfare of participants and team members. · Assures compliance with YMCA quality standards and safety protocols related to the Aquatics department.
- Monitor pool and participants for safety of all swimmers during operation.
- Perform life-saving measures in the case of emergencies as needed.
- Communicates effectively with participants regarding safety and pool rules ensures rules are complied with for the welfare of everyone.
- Responsible for chemical reading of pool conditions according to aquatics code.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift
- Must be able to maintain skills for Lifeguard certification.
- Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to stay in the pool for an extended period of time

- All employees of the YMCA are required to obtain a PA Criminal Clearance, PA Child Abuse Clearance and FBI Clearance (the cost of the FBI clearance will be reimbursed after receipt of certificate). Are you willing to obtain these clearances?
